Phil Schiller, Vice President of Apple Inc., surprised many Apple fans when he revealed not one but two new iPhones in a special event in Cupertino, Calif. on Sept. 10.
Apple revealed the new iPhone 5S, the newest version of the iPhone 5, and a more affordable model named the iPhone 5C. The iPhone 5S Is the latest upgrade from the iPhone 5 and it comes with three colors which are Grey, Space Grey, and newly added Champagne. The new iPhone 5C is made out a plastic cover and comes in five colors: White, Green, Blue, Yellow, and Pink. The new phones also come already installed with the new software IOS 7.
“I am getting it this weekend,” said senior Brandon Aflak when asked if he was thinking about getting the iPhone 5S.
The more affordable iPhone comes with a capacity of 16 GB and 32 GB which cost $99.99 and $199.99 respectively. While the iPhone 5S comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB at $199.99, $299.99, and $399.99. One of the biggest differences between the two, other than the colors, is that the iPhone 5S comes with a thumb print scanner which can be used to unlock the phone and approve purchases on the App Store and the iTunes store.
“It would probably be the thumb print scanner,” said Aflak when asked his favorite feature about the new iPhone 5s.
This is not the first announcement that Apple has made in this year. Apple announced their new software for the iPhone and iPad on June 10, which includes a new layout, iTunes Radio and AirDrop.
“Yes I would recommend it,” said Aflak when asked if he would recommend it to someone who is getting a smart phone for the first time.
Both iPhones are expected to hit Apple stores and Sprint, AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T Mobile stores on Sept. 20.
