Back-to-School night gives parents and guardians the opportunity to become better acquainted with their children’s teachers. For the students, this meant another minimum day, but for the teachers, it meant getting their room and information organized.
On Thursday, Sept. 8, teachers reviewed the class syllabus, discussed behavior and academic expectations, and expressed their excitement for the current school year.
Though this was a time to have their questions and concerns addressed, parents were discouraged from discussing their student’s academic or social progress in class, but were encouraged to arrange an appointment with a teacher for further discussion at a later time.
Parents were given a campus map along with a list of their student’s classroom numbers, course name, and teacher. Each teacher had roughly ten minutes to briefly inform the parents of what was to be expected throughout the school year.
For a portion of the night, the guidance counselors were in the College and Career Center to further discuss graduation requirements, possible plans for college, and strategies for choosing a college.
“I thought all of my daughter’s teachers were really friendly and informative, and she is lucky to have them this year,” stated Steve Sprinkel, a Carlmont parent.
