On Friday, Oct. 5th, the Carlmont Scots’ varsity football team played against the San Mateo Bearcats.
Carlmont held the lead throughout most of the game, with great plays by Yancey Portis, Nick Simon, Gabriel Crespin, and Jesse Gifford. In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats managed to work their way to victory in the last few moments of the game winning with a score of 20 to 13.
In the first quarter of the game, the Scots and the Bearcats were pushing hard against each other. Both teams were receiving many encroachments and false starts.
Carlmont’s defense was playing poorly in the beginning of the game. Jacob Orme said, “It was a good game and a good team, but I would like to see our defense improve.”
They started to pull it back together after San Mateo scored its first touchdown. They also made some key defensive stops near the goal line, keeping the Bearcats from scoring, but they soon lost control again after the half and in the final minutes of the game.
Both teams were having trouble scoring points throughout most of the game. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was 13 to 6 with Carlmont in the lead. The score was soon turned around when San Mateo was able to get past the defense and score a 45 yard rushing touchdown.
This game was  another tough loss for the Carlmont varsity football team.
