President Obama confirms Bin Laden’s death

(UPDATED, 12:30AM PST) – Osama bin Laden’s body has been buried at sea.

WASHINGTON (8:45PM PST) – President Obama made an unscheduled announcement to the US late Sunday night.

Osama Bin Laden’s death was first reported by CNN’s John King late Sunday night. He also reported that he has been killed and the U.S. is in possession of his body.

In Obama’s broadcast, he reported that Osama Bin Laden, the man behind the Sept. 11 attack, has been killed and US intelligence agents have confirmed the body that was obtain by agents is Bin Laden.

For a long time, officials believed bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world, was hiding somewhere in the mountains near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Obama noted that the US received reports last week that Bin Laden was hiding deep inside Pakistan.

The president met with his staff and gave authorization to agents to find Bin Laden. Bin Laden was killed in a military operation in Pakistan that Obama ordered today, Obama said.

Officials have taken custody of Bin Laden’s body and no Americans were harmed in the operation in Pakistan and U.S. forces took care to avoid civilian casualties, Obama noted.

“Justice has been done,” the president concluded.
