The Santa Clara Bruins and Carlmont Scots girls varsity soccer teams faced off on Feb. 20, 2013. The two teams are playing in the Central Coast Section Tournament, which the Carlmont team won last year.
Throughout the entire game, Carlmont played hard and more often than not held control of the ball. The Scots won with a score of 4-0.
Carlmont took the lead, in the first half, when senior Megan Stewart received the ball and shot it past the Bruins’s goalie.
“The game went really well and we were able defend in teams of two,” said junior Melissa Wood.
The Bruins had a near goal while the Scots’ goalie was on the ground after diving to stop the ball. The Bruins received a second chance to score, but the shot was just a tiny bit high and bounced off the cross bar.
The second goal for the Scots was scored by Wood, who was able to get a break away run and pass by all of the Bruins’ defenders and their goalie to get a goal for the Scots.
The third point for the Scots was scored by senior Maritza Gomez and was quickly followed by a goal from Wood, who took the direct kick at the goal after the Bruins’ goalie crossed the 18 yard box with the ball in her hands.
“They were a tough team because they never gave up,” added Wood.
The Scots are looking forward to playing their next game.
