The traditional Carlmont Cup was been postponed on Sept. 25, 2012, due to trash left by students at lunchtime. During this time of year, students can usually anticipate walking by the Quad and seeing the Carlmont Cup, a tournament between different sports teams and classes. However, lunch spots around school have been left with many pieces of trash, resulting in the cancellation of the Carlmont Cup for the day.
Normally, the sport team participants include the volleyball, soccer, dance, basketball, football, water polo, tennis, and cross country teams who compete against each other and also members of certain classes such as choir, AVID, and the freshman class.
According to Zach Levin, one of the ASB Lunchtime activities coordinators, the Carlmont Cup is a series of different minute to win it style games. He says that the Carlmont Cup is “a great way to build up team and school spirit.” He also explained that the tournament will culminate at the homecoming assembly.
The Carlmont Cup excitement will have to wait at least one day. Students have been reminded over the past two weeks by members of the administration and announcements over the PA system to remember to throw their trash away.
Students have disregarded these announcements, and as a result the quad has been blocked off with yellow caution tape indefinitely. Although the Carlmont Cup will continue, it is not sure when the competition will recommence and if it will be affected by the trash in the future.
