The Carlmont Lady Scots had a tough match against the Menlo-Atherton Bears. The Lady Scots held their heads high with confidence even though some of their players were unable to make it to the match.
Senior Cory Sidel and junior Veronika Dvorak ere both unable to attend today’s match. They hold the first and second spot for Carlmont singles.
“I wasn’t too worried because we have a lot of other really good players that could step up to play,” said sophomore Sydney Cho.
Menlo-Atherton is a long time rival of Carlmont. It was crucial for Carlmont to win this match in order to secure a spot in the Pacific Athletic League (PAL) playoffs.
The Lady Scots’ coaches had to come up with many new strategies to defeat Menlo-Atherton. Assistant Coach Paula Sobey said “We tried to make our doubles teams the strongest while keeping our singles in tact.
Sophomore Cassidy Sobey is usually paired with Pareesa Darafshi or Morgan Watson to play first doubles. Today, she played in a singles match.
Many other doubles pairs were changed to make them stronger. “Even though our doubles today are very strong, this still isn’t our team at it’s strongest. We are still going to play our hearts out and do our best to seal our spot in the PAL final,” said Coach Sobey.
Carlmont defeat Menlo-Atherton after a long, hard fight. The Lady Scots have secured a spot in the PAL Tennis Tournament beginning next week.
The Lady Scots plan on working very hard in order to be the best they can become.
