Saratoga High School, a long time Carlmont rival, was hardly able to keep up with the pace that the girls Frosh-Soph Soccer team played with during this week’s game.
After rescheduling the game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 11, Carlmont arrived to the game ready to play.
“We wanted to show [Saratoga] that they couldn’t just flake on us. We were so pumped to play yesterday and we showed up to play today,” said sophomore Gaby Belarde. “We really wanted to beat them not just for bragging rights, but we felt like we had something to prove.”
After more than a month of working hard at practice and bonding, the team has decided on a common goal that they all strive to achieve.
Sophomore Lauren McDonell said, “We all want to work hard and improve not only individually, but together as a team. We all want to take Woodside’s bragging rights back.”
Although some conflicts have come up with some players on the team, when it comes to the games they all play for each other. On the field, nothing else matters except being there for each other and acting like a family.
Sophomore Allegra Ferme said, “Once we step onto the field, the girls are very mature about it. The field is where nothing else matters but the game.”
Athough Saratoga put up a fight, it was no match for Carlmont’s speed, rhythmic passes, and movement off the ball. Sophomore Nicole Berrios scored three goals to give Carlmont a 3-0 win.
The Frosh-Soph team hopes to continue to work hard and play with confidence throughout the season.
