All students at Carlmont may know Robert Fishtrom now, but who was he before he came to Carlmont?
It may surprise some to know that Fishtrom had several other jobs before coming to Carlmont.
“I worked at Woodside Deli in Redwood City from the time I was sixteen years old until 1995,” said Fishtrom. “I started my career in education teaching Social Studies and Technology courses at Sequoia High School from January 1995 until June 2001.”
According to Fishtrom, he then went on to work at the district office as the district’s Instructional Technology Specialist.
“I spent six years in that position, until June 2007,” Fishtrom added.
After working as a summer school principal at Menlo Atherton High School and as a lecturer at San Francisco State University and Santa Clara State University, Fishtrom began to start his job at Carlmont.
“I started as Administrative Vice Principal at Carlmont in July of 2007,” Fishtrom added, “and then moved on to Instructional Vice Principal in April 2010.”
Fishtrom has loved his job ever since he joined the Carlmont staff. To Fishtrom the best part about his job is working with students.
“What I like best about being vice principal is working with students,” he said. “It’s awesome to see students grow and achieve their potential.”
Though he loves his job, Fishtrom finds that there are some dislikes about his job.
“I dislike the amount of paperwork that is required in my current position,” said Fishtrom. “I also dislike having to coordinate the numerous tests required of students.”
All of these experiences have made Fishtrom who he is today, and Carlmont is very lucky to have him
