The popular donut franchise Krispy Kreme has a new promotion for the 40th anniversary of Ghostbusters, featuring four new flavored donuts alongside a new drink.
The Slimer, ECTO-Sprinkled, Marshmallow Man, and Ghostbusters Cookies ‘N Cream are the new donut flavors, and Slimer’s Slime-ade chiller is the new-themed Ghostbusters drink.
“We started selling them on Oct. 7, and the last day the Ghostbusters donuts and the drink are offered is Halloween,” said six-year Krispy Kreme employee Robert Taber.
Along with their yearly promotions, Krispy Kreme also offers seasonal items such as their returning Pumpkin Spice collection. This includes their Pumpkin Spice Cake donut and Pumpkin Spice Latte, which can be ordered hot, iced, or frozen. The sales of these started in August and will end at the end of November.
“The Ghostbusters theme is perfect for Halloween,” said Carlmont freshman Ophelia Rymill when asked about the new promotion.
The best in-store sellers of the new donuts are the Cookies ‘N Cream and Slimer, and when looking at them, people also thought they had the best designs.
“My favorite donut was the pumpkin spice because it was dense and not dry, like a cake. My second favorite was the Oreo donut because it had a good flavor and was not overwhelming. My third was the ECTO-Sprinkled because it was sweet and it had a good presentation overall. I chose the Marshmallow Man next because it’s not horrible, but it doesn’t have anything special about it. My least favorite was the Slimer because I don’t like lemon-flavored desserts, and the texture of the filling was bad,” said Carlmont freshman Livia Miller after tasting all of the flavors.
This is not the first time Krispy Kreme has offered a themed collection with additional fall flavors. Last year’s theme was Scooby Doo. Even if the limited edition donuts are not connected to a brand, they always have some Halloween-themed donuts.
“We do advertisements on social media, so every month, we have customers coming back to try something new. Even though the prices of these limited edition donuts are higher than the regular donuts, people will still buy them,” Taber said.
Krispy Kreme stays true to its motto of “Hot Now & Anytime!” as the Mountain View location is the primary producer of donuts for stores across the Bay Area, such as Santa Clara, Fremont, and San Jose. The donuts are delivered twice a day and are made all day long.
If the Hot Now sign is on outside the store, it means donuts are being made fresh. In most locations, if the sign is on, you can even ask for one free plain glazed donut for each person in your party.
Krispy Kreme’s fall donuts are an excellent way for customers to celebrate the spooky season with beloved favorites and exciting new flavors.
“I liked the Ghostbusters donut idea a lot. It was super fun,” said Ralston eighth-grader Tatum Hernandez.
