In recent years, the Carlmont girls water polo teams developed a reputation as a losing team. Often placing last place in the lowest league, expectations were never high for the Lady Scots.
That all changed when their old coach was replaced by Cole Bielski, a former professional water polo player. Bielski completely changed and restructured the teams plays and strategies, and used a strict new training regime that the girls were not used to.
With their hard work, the varsity team finished third in the lower division and the freshman/sophmore team tied for second. For their efforts, they were nominated to move up to the upper division.
The final decision of whether they would move up or not came to Bielski, who let his team vote on which league they would stay in. In an unanimous vote, the girls chose to take on the challenge and move up to the upper league.
Because of their decision, Coach Bielski will require girls to practice summer polo and recommended spring swimming in order for next years team to adapt to the tougher, more challenging upper league.
Next year looks bright as nine juniors will return on varsity along with several sophmores.
The future of Carlmont girls water polo is looking good as they take the next step to raise their playing level.
