William Shakespeare, the famous author and poet, is immortalized through his work. Many of his pieces have held a permanent space of relevancy on the stage and in the classroom. However, today one of Shakespeare’s most well known play, Romeo and Juliet is transforming into it’s most surprising change yet- gnomes.
Gnomeo and Juliet, opening on Feb.11, is a cute, animated satire on the classic Romeo and Juliet Shakespearean tragedy. Gnomeo, a blue gnome (voiced by James Mcavoy) is madly in love with his soulmate- a red gnome named Juliet (voiced by Emily Blunt).
“The structure of two people who fall in love, who are not allowed to fall in love, is always going to give you a great basis for a story,” said Mcavoy.
The two star-crossed lovers find achieving their “happily ever after” much harder than expected due to the animosity between their two yards.
Under the spell of love, these cuddly gnomes will stop at nothing to be together.
