After Jennifer Lawrence starred in the Hunger Games, her new movie, House at the End of the Street was expected to be a hit, but did not quite live up to expectations.
Released on Sept. 21, 2012, the film ended up second at the box office. With an attempt at a twist in the plot, the movie was interesting, but just not quite as scary as one would expect a horror movie to be.
Adelyn Yao, a sophomore, commented, “It was a good movie, but just not quite as scary as I expected.”
The movie begins with a girl named Elissa Cassidy, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and her mother, Sarah, who move from Chicago to a small town, next door to a house where a double murder was committed.
Elissa soon finds out that the murder was committed by a girl named Carrie Anne, who killed both of her parents. Elissa meets the current resident of the house next door, and the son the murdered couple, Ryan Jacobson.
Ryan and Elissa become more than just friends. But what Elissa doesn’t know is that Carrie Anne is still living in the basement of Ryan’s home. Ryan protects Elissa from Carrie Anne, but also doesn’t want his only living family member to get taken away.
As Elissa learns more about the truth of the past, she gets herself into trouble and ends up risking her life.
Yao added, “the movie was similar to other horror movies I have seen, but just less scary and more of a mystery than an actual horror movie.”
Although this movie wasn’t as scary as it was projected to be, it was still an enjoyable film.
