The Carlmont junior varsity football team had a great ending to an amazing season, defeating their rivals, the Sequoia High School Cherokees 12-7.
“That was the biggest game of the year. I know we won the league championship, but beating Sequoia on their field after the way they beat us on ours… there’s nothing sweeter than that,” said head coach Rene George.
Carlmont kept a solid lead throughout the game, scoring before Sequoia in the second quarter, and once again in the third quarter. Sequoia fought back, blocking both an extra point and a two-point conversion, as well as showing a powerful passing game.
The Cherokees scored early in the fourth quarter, but were unable to find the end zone again, their last drive ending in an interception by Carlmont’s Cole Lotti.
Kicker Aaron Albaum did not score any points, although he narrowly missed a 43 yard field goal attempt. He also kicked to Sequoia in two controversial plays, in which the referees called the play over when the kick returner dropped the ball into the end zone after touching it.
Overall, the junior varsity Scots had a fantastic and unprecedented season.
“We’re gonna put Carlmont back on the map. We’re here to stay,” said George.
