In the CCS semifinals on Wednesday night, 1 seed San Benito (29-1) overpowered the Scots 5-0. This ended a fantastic season for this inexperienced Carlmont team, who grew drastically from earlier in the season.
Carlmont finished the regular season with a bang, taking down Hillsdale on Senior Day. This win provided momentum for the Lady Scots heading into CCS, as they won their first two games pretty easily.
Carlmont outscored their first two opponents, Wilcox and Santa Teresa, by a combined total of 22-3. However, San Benito was a far more formidable opponent than their previous two.
Head Coach Jim Liggett gave the start to freshman Danielle Giuliacci, who pitched four strong innings allowing just two runs and three hits. Stottler and Faulkner each added an inning in relief.
The story of the game was Carlmont’s hitting, or lack thereof. The Lady Scots totaled just two hits on the day, not nearly enough to compete with such a talented opponent. This proved to be the deciding factor, as the Lady Scots couldn’t muster any offense.
Despite ending the season just a game away from the CCS title, the Lady Scots had a terrific season and performed honorably in the CCS playoffs. With just two seniors on the roster, Carlmont will return a strong team with a realistic shot at a CCS title.
