Possibly the greatest cyclist of all time, the only reason that most Americans would ever watch this unappreciated sport, has been caught.
Sunday’s showing of “60 minutes” piled up details of illegal performance enhancing drugs and allegations at the cycling legend.
If the allegations are true, and Armstrong used performance enhancing drugs to win those seven Tour De France titles, then he must be punished by the sport’s cycling union.
However, these new allegations shouldn’t stop Armstrong’s hard work towards battling cancer.
In recent years, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, or Livestrong brand, has gained national attention and power as millions of dollars have poured in to help fight the battle versus cancer. It is predicted that the foundation will raise 50 million dollars by the end of this year.
After finding out that almost everyone was cheating too, back in the days when Armstrong fought for his seventh title, could it be possible that a former cancer patient beat out all those dopers?
It doesn’t matter. Lance Armstrong symbolizes much more than an athlete, but as a legend. Not for his athletic feats, but for humanitarian deeds.
That is why his legacy can’t be tarnished, even after an incident such as this.
