I entered Marvin Gardens thinking only one thing: this place better have some good grub. And it did.
Located at 1160 Old County road in Belmont, Marvin Gardens doesn’t quite catch your attention. It has neon signs advertising beer and sports, yet it is still easy to miss.
There is very little parking outside and small space inside, although not many people hang around there. There is no wait to sit and the food comes within ten minutes.
The hosts were friendly, yet they looked at me a little funny as I walked in. It doesn’t have the teenage-hangout vibe that a place like Five Guys might have. It definitely stays true to the ‘pub’ name.
Despite the slightly sub-par setting, the food held its own. My half slab of ribs really got my taste buds going, and the fries are thick and tasty. The burgers looked very good as well, and came in decently large portions.
The salads, however, were considerably less appetizing than the rest of the menu. A vegetarian would be far out of place here.
Despite the shaggy look to the place, I enjoyed my meal and time at Marvin Gardens. A meal for two can easily stay under $25.
Marvin Gardens easily has the better food when compared to a place like Five Guys or In-N-Out, although it isn’t as modern or as appealing to teenager. I give it three and a half stars out of five.
Marvin Gardens is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 10 pm, and Sunday from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm. Kitchen closes at 9 pm.
