At approximately 7:00 on Tuesday morning, the mayor of San Carlos passed away unexpectedly outside of his home.
After dialing 911 and being rushed to Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, 46-year-old Omar Ahmad was pronounced dead at the hospital of a heart attack.
Vice Mayor Andy Klein mentioned that Ahmad didn’t appear sickly at the city council meeting which was the previous day, and seemed in his usual good spirits.
City Manager Jeff Maltbie added, “Those of us at City Hall who had the opportunity to work with and get to know him are devastated by his loss. Omar’s dedication to the citizens of San Carlos and his passion for democracy will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
In November 2007, Omar Ahmad was elected into the City Council of San Carlos, but he was recently appointed mayor in November. Ahmad’s part time position of mayor was supposed to last till November of 2011.
“It’s shocking because he wasn’t very old and it was so sudden. When Omar was running for City Council, he was coming door-to-door to talk to the citizens and he seemed like a genuine man,” commented a San Carlos resident.
Ahmad was well known entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. He leaves behind his parents and two sisters who live in Florida.
