Aiming for the House of Representatives, Rishi Kumar plans to introduce new policies supporting youth and address many of the United States’ unresolved issues, such as inaccessible necessities and a lack of essential laws.
Some priorities of Kumar’s campaign include universal health care, LGBTQ+ rights, and racial equality. He focuses on these topics because little has changed within the U.S., leaving it in a divisive position. With an alleged continued abuse of power, the trust in the U.S. government keeps dwindling over time.
According to Satvik Nanda, an intern at Rishi Kumar’s campaign and a junior at Carlmont High School, this crisis calls for more politicians like Kumar to improve the U.S. for everyone and future generations.
“If Rishi were to get elected for the district, he would be able to institute many of the policies that are supported by youth, which isn’t something that we see a lot of right now,” Nanda said.
Additionally, throughout his campaign, Kumar continues to advocate for equal rights regardless of gender, race, and sexuality. If voted in, he aims to introduce new laws that protect natural rights, such as reproductive health services, and fight against homophobia and hate crimes.
“Rishi works hard to ensure that people’s voices are heard at the end of the day. He fights for women’s rights, the LGBTQ, and racial equality. He wants to ensure that all voices are heard and treated equally,” Nanda said.
Moreover, Kumar’s campaign also promotes universal health care and intends to reduce the cost of Medicare. For instance, his team helped support local hospitals and COVID-19 patients during the pandemic.
“Universal health care is a good thing. It’s especially terrible that we’re at a point where people have to face that they’re dying and can’t do anything about it because they don’t have enough money or can’t support themselves. Taking steps to fix the issue is necessary,” said Penelope Krakow, a sophomore at Carlmont High School and supporter of Kumar’s campaign.
Furthermore, Kumar helps students all over the state learn more about politics and pushes them toward a brighter future, creating opportunities for change and growth.
“I’m not well versed in political campaigns, but as a climate activist, I am very interested in his plans for a sustainable future. The promises he makes on this campaign can help shape the future of this generation,” said Iris Yan, another sophomore at Carlmont High School and supporter of Kumar’s campaign.
Ultimately, Kumar helps and supports others through his campaign with the help of the many interns from all over the country. He prepares to continue his agenda if voted into the House of Representatives.
