The Carlmont Scots JV baseball team defeated the King’s Academy Knights on May 1, with a final score of 10-0.
The game ended early after the Scots scored 10 runs over a total of six innings. The lead started in the first inning with one run, then in the fourth inning with another, and in the fifth inning with five runs. Finally, in the sixth inning, three runs were scored.
Sophomore Quinn Diamond observed the game from the stands as the Scots secured a major win.
“The Scots played really well. My favorite part was watching our team on the field because they were super focused and locked in,” Diamond said.
Sophomore Karam Kayali pitched all six innings while freshman CJ Webster scored the first run of the game.
Throughout the game, Carlmont’s spirit was evident in the dugout’s repeated shouts and cheers. Both former and current players noted the importance of exhibiting team encouragement during the game.
Former baseball player and scorekeeper Tyler Webster explained the meaning behind team chants.
“Teammates cheering on for players helps a lot. I love it, and it’s funny because they distract the other team’s pitcher,” Tyler Webster said.
When asked about the game cheers, sophomore Zachary Brier agreed.
“The cheers can sometimes sound stupid, but they help me a lot with motivation,” Brier said.
Brier noted the Knights’ early struggle to keep pace with the Scots’ offensive scoring.
“I didn’t hit too well today, but my defense was good. For the future, our team is focused on making everyone more consistent with hitting,” Brier said.
During the fourth inning, freshman Robert Tadlock scored one run for the Scots, maintaining the lead with a score of 2-0.
Assistant coach and former player Noah Werbinski demonstrated his support for the team’s offensive strategy.
“The team performed fantastically, and they prioritized great offense,” Werbinski said.
The breakthrough happened during the fifth inning. Sophomore Jeremy Yam, freshman Lucas Sharff, sophomore Jack Lang, CJ Webster, and Tadlock all scored a run each.
Werbinski continued to demonstrate his support during this stretch of the game.
“The team looked great as a group of guys together. They played well. I think they’re looking really strong going into the last two weeks of the season,” Werbinski said.
With the sixth inning and three more runs being scored, the game had to end early with 10 runs for the Scots. Despite the major win, the team agreed on future improvements at practice.
“They need to find a way to score more runs and mostly work on hitting in general,” Werbinski said.
Tyler Webster expressed a similar comment.
“They need to play better in the box and when they hit,” Tyler Webster said.
