In the last game of the season, the Carlmont JV girls lacrosse team fell to the Sequoia Ravens on May 3 with a final score of 8-3.
Throughout the game, both teams were going back and forth, with possession on both sides. The first quarter ended close, 3-1.
The team came in motivated. With many new players this season, the team grew and improved after each game.
“Most of us didn’t play before, so I think we all just became better players and knew the game better since the beginning,” said Mia Wells, a freshman midfielder for Carlmont.
Sequoia kept possession for most of the game and had many runs. The Scots were able to hold off some goals with defense, but also struggled to keep the ball.
“We were having trouble with our ground balls, and we were choking up, so I think that contributed to our loss,” Wells said.
Halftime ended with a score of 4-2. Despite being down, the Scots persevered and did their best throughout the second half. The Scots were able to communicate with each other well and keep their energy up.
“Something I felt good about from this game was the fact that we started and ended off strong, coming in with a positive attitude and keeping that spirit to the end of the game,” said freshman midfielder Elvia Lo.
Lo made many runs throughout the game, keeping them competitive against the Ravens.
The third quarter ended 6-2, and Sequoia scored with seconds left in the fourth quarter, securing the 8-3 victory.
Despite the loss, head coach Andria Trierweiler was happy with the team’s development throughout the season. As players began to develop a feel for the sport, their growth was evident on the field.
“About 99% of our girls had never touched a lacrosse stick in their lives before this season, so just seeing all of the upward trajectory of their stick work, communication skills, and lacrosse IQ was amazing,” Trierweiler said. “The main things I would say kept us going were their energy, camaraderie, and never giving up.”
