- Carlmont’s field in the morning covered in frost
Winter finally showed up at Carlmont this week, and with it bringing temperatures close to freezing.
For California, a state notoriously know for its sunshine, winter usually doesn’t mean a white landscape for Christmas. Still, students have recently been waking up to frost covered grass and for some people, frozen over windshields. As people make there way on campus before school they can see their own breath in font of them.
Monday morning was the coldest day of the week with a low of 36 degrees Fahrenheit. While it isn’t quite freezing, it’s getting there. This week is noticeably colder than last years, whose average lows were in the 40’s and even on some days the 50’s.
Hallie Freitas, a Carlmont student, joked about the weather saying, “Ahhhh! It’s freezing! I might have to even break out the old snow gear!”
Although it may not be cold enough for snow to fall, it has happened before. Student Melissa Woods recalls, “a couple years ago it snowed at my house! It was late at night and it was only for a couple minutes but still! It snowed in Belmont!”
This week seems to signify the end to light shirts and the occasional shorts. From here on out it’s jeans and jackets, sweaters and scarfs. Guess that means that the Carlmont Scot will have to put on some pants.
