The world’s richest person, Elon Musk, has set a keen eye on Twitter. In recent weeks, the owner of SpaceX and Tesla has made several pushes to claim ownership of the massive social media platform. On April 4th 2022, Musk ambitiously rose to become Twitter’s largest shareholder, holding 9.2% of the company’s total shares. To prevent Elon from furthering his goals, Twitter and its top shareholders began taking preventative action against Musk. Along with Twitter implementing a ‘poison pill’ to prevent Elon from consolidating shares, the Vanguard Group became Twitters largest shareholder at 10.3% ownership, thwarting Musk for the time being.

Amazon workers in a Staten Island warehouse won a vote to initiate a workers union: The first ever in the company’s history. Amazon has gotten a bad reputation for poor working conditions, so the union marks a significant milestone for the better treatment of workers. However, Amazon has filed multiple objections to the election, stating that the distribution of marijuana swayed the voters, along with other hyperbolized accusations of misconduct.

California State Bill 328 is set to take effect next school year. The bill mandates that high schools start no earlier than 8:30 a.m., pushing back Carlmont’s 0-period start by 30 minutes. Although many students may appreciate the extra time to sleep in, the later start times also mean later end times. With school ending around 4 p.m. during the winter months, it will already begin to get dark, which can make students feel exhausted and interfere with their afterschool activities.

After long periods of restrictions held by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic, several California students are trying to get their licenses. Driving can be a stressful endeavor, however. A recent survey reveals that ¼ of teenagers feel anxiety about driving, and are too intimidated to pursue a license.
