It was the 12th inning on Wednesday night at AT&T Park, in one of the most intense games, that Marlins runner Scott Cousin took the turn into home base and in an attempt to win the game, ran into Buster Posey causing a collision that broke Posey’s leg.
Scott scored the run and the Marlins won the game 7-6.
As the Marlins blew a four run lead in the ninth, tensions rose and the players, especially Scott Cousin, knew they had to do anything to win.
This led to last year’s rookie of the year to be out for the season.
“I felt like he was blocking the dish. It’s the go-ahead run to win the game, I got to do whatever I can to score,” said Cousins. “I’m not trying to end anybody’s season or anything like that. I just was trying to play hard and score the go-ahead run. He didn’t say much and you could tell he was in pain.”
Last year Posey was one of the top players on the best team and one of the future faces of the sport.
Posey’s presence on the Giants will be missed as the team is last in the NL league in runs, even with the help of Posey.
