Junior Rebecca Faulkner took the mound as Lady Scots starting pitcher against the Aragon Dons on Tuesday. Faulkner would pitch five hit-less innings before being relieved by sophomore Mariko Kondo.
“Well, it was our first league game of the season and we were all really amped up as a team,” said Faulkner. “We worked hard to prepare for that game, and it definitely showed. As a pitcher, I wanted to start the league off on a strong note and Kondo did a great job closing the game.”
Faulkner would also go three for four from the plate with two hits and be named player of the game as Carlmont would cruise to a 7-0 win.
Junior Gabby Pons also had a great game, going 4-4 from the plate, knocking in three RBIs and storing one.
Carlmont is 8-2 overall this season without playing a single home game.
“We aren’t just playing as individuals, but truly as a team trying to get the [win] and we always pick each other up and have great attitudes. The coaches also reinforce the positive team attitude,”said Faulkner.
Last season, Faulkner pitched in the Central Coast Section Championship for Carlmont and feels that this year’s team shows a lot of promise.
“[Our] squad goal is to definitely go all the way and win CCS. We came so close last year and I have a great feeling about this one,” said Faulkner.
With this league win, it puts Carlmont tied for first with Half Moon Bay High School in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division.
The Lady Scots play their next game Thursday, Mar. 21, 2013 against Hillsdale at Hillsdale at 4:00.
