“Dear FS lax fans, I apologize but we have to cancel tomorrow’s game,” said the team’s coach Phil Leichtle in an email that was sent after 10:00 PM the night before the game on April 27 2013.
There were several reasons behind the cancellation.
Shelby Rebholtz said, “I felt down because I was anxious to play a good game of lacrosse. However, I also thought it was the best thing to do because the team was not fully prepared.”
The odds did seem to be stacked against the Scots.
Menlo-Atherton High School, the team that Carlmont was scheduled to play against, is a very strong team. Recently, M-A easily won against Menlo School, who beat Carlmont’s junior varsity team 12-2.
Carlmont’s team was short on players. A couple of the team members were out because of injuries, and others were out due to sickness.
Attendance to Friday’s practice was very low, causing Leichtle to be unable to prepare the team. In the email, he stated, “Practice attendance is necessary for playing games with bare minimum numbers.”
Winning against Gunn High School has become a priority for Carlmont’s JV lacrosse team.
Leichtle stated that the team needs to keep their eyes on teams “like ours…teams like Gunn High School whom we play on this very next Monday.”
Nathan Klebanov thought that the game against M-A could had gone well for the team, and wasn’t thrilled about it being cancelled. He “wanted to see how our team would do against M-A, there’s always a possibility of a win.”
