Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo will be getting three new additions in Fall 2011.
After Mervyn’s left in 2008, there was a bunch of vacant space left. In that space, a Cheesecake Factory restaurant, H&M, and a larger Forever 21 will be built. Across the street, Designer Shoe Wear (DSW) will be opening next to Barnes & Noble.
According to the San Mateo Patch, The Hillsdale Shopping center has “struggled amid changes in consumer behavior, pressure from competitors Bridgepointe to the north and Stanford Shopping Center to the south, and most recently the recession.”
The construction of H&M and a new, two-story Forever 21 seems to target customers who are teenagers or young adults.
“I’m excited for the new stores to open up at Hillsdale,” replied Michelle Fox, “I won’t have to go so far to get cute clothes. I really think the new additions will help Hillsdale be the place to shop.”
With new stores opening, new job opportunities arise, especially for teenagers looking to work in retail. All of the locations are now hiring.
“If I don’t find a job soon, I’ll probably apply to the new Forever 21 or H&M. I think it’d be fun working at the mall,” said Bella Baroncini.
The Cheesecake Factory opens Sept. 19, H&H opens late Oct. and DSW opens Oct. 27.
