Carlmont’s boys varsity basketball team played in two games during the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5.
On Wednesday, Feb. 2, the boys had a devastating defeat against Mills High School. They lost the game 45 to 36, but were only losing by one point at half-time.
In the third quarter, the Scots struggled the most with Mills’ tough defense. Point Guard Brandon Patterson stated, “We lost because our execution wasn’t as good as it should’ve been, and we made some mistakes that shouldn’t have happened.”
On Friday, Feb. 4, the Scots redeemed themselves with a well fought out game against Half Moon Bay High School. They won their game 52 to 49 after being down in points for almost the entire game.
Patterson explained, “Even when we were down we never gave up or backed down. That’s what led us to the win.”
The Scots were losing 26 to 14 at half-time, but took the lead in the 4th quarter when James Testa hit two free throws with five seconds left in the game. His clutch free throws put the Scots ahead by three points, and ended up being the game winning points for the Scots.
