This year, the Carlmont badminton team has a lot of new players, but the goal remains the same: win.
Aragon took the league title last year, but according to returning player, sophomore James Xie, “this time around, things will be different.”
Xie said, “We’re probably going to get first place this year, because last year’s champions lost a lot of good players and we gained a lot of good players.”
All five of Carlmont’s badminton teams, mens varsity singles, womens varsity singles, womens doubles, mens doubles, and mixed doubles, have received new players.
There are two new players on the varsity badminton singles team, sophomore David Maia and freshman Jeshurun Chen, in addition to two returning players, filling up the four singles varsity spots.
Many players on the team, such as Xie, have very high hopes for this talented squad.
“I think that this year’s varsity squad is poised to have a fantastic season and could win it all,” said sophomore Brian Lee.
Only time will tell, as they have been practicing daily for the upcoming season.
The Carlmont badminton team have their first scrimmage against Woodside this Thursday.
