The annual musical is just around the corner, and excitement for auditions are spreading around the choir students as choir teacher Genevieve Tep encourages students to audition.
This year the musical will be “Annie Get Your Gun”, originally written by Irving Berlin in the 1950’s and returned to Broadway as a musical in 1999. It will be hitting the performing arts center Feb. 6 through Feb. 9 with their rendition of the hit musical.
The musical is about a Midwestern girl named Annie, and follows her on her quest for love. The musical features many famous songs including “Anything You Can Do” and “Colonel Buffalo Bill”.
“I think that the theme is really empowering to both genders because the ending, unlike the one in the movie, portrays women and men as equal,” said sophomore Pyper Hayden
Auditions for the Spring Musical will be held on Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 at 6:30 pm in the theater. Requirements for the musical include preparing a one minute monologue, one minute singing solo, and a dance combination.
Tep is encouraging the choir students to audition, seeing as they are accustomed to performing.
“With doing the musical last year I’m really excited to do it again. We have brand new directors this year, and after meeting them I know that doing this show will be a really fun experience,” said Hayden
Last years spring musical “Guys and Dolls” was a success according to those who participated. That positive attitude is what is making this years students so excited to audition and put on a performance again.
