“Along with a Mediterranean menu and hookah pipes, this spot features patio seating right on the water,” says Waterfront Pizza and Mediterranean Restaurant’s online website.
Waterfront’s most appealing feature is its location right along the waters of Foster City, California, where people can enjoy the fresh air and the circular yellow lights lining the overhang while they dine.
The inside of the restaurant is decorated with a mural along one wall, a tan color on the other walls, different colored light fixtures hanging from the ceiling, and vases and other artifacts displayed in small cutouts in the walls.
Waterfront Pizza and Mediterranean Restaurant has a very modern feel to it, especially with the waiters and waitresses dressed casually in jeans and matching black t-shirts.
Customers order at the cash register, receive a number, and seat themselves to wait for their food to be brought over.
The service was fine, but when going with a large group it becomes somewhat hectic with the waiters and waitresses scrambling around to find the number that corresponds with the order.
While the service was nothing special, the food was.
With options ranging from falafels to gyros to pizzas, all of Waterfront’s meals are reasonably priced and taste just as good as a customer could hope.
I ordered the Mid-East Pizza, which is topped with feta-cheese, mozzarella, zatar and tomatoes. I was hesitant to order this because I did not know what zatar was at the time, but I’m glad to have tried the dark greenish-black spice, which added a salty flavor when mixed with herbs and sesame seeds.
I was pleased with my filling pizza. However, the small pizza was a bit much to finish on my own, and Waterfront only offers personal-sized pizzas during lunch time. A small pizza may be too much for one person, but they would probably not be enough to split between two people.
Waterfront Pizza and Mediterranean Restaurant also offers vegetarian pizzas, which is what my vegetarian friend, senior Isabel Zwass, ordered. Her pizza looked much more appetizing than mine did, but that was mostly because zatar does not look as good as it tastes.
Zwass said that she enjoyed her pizza and liked that the pizza tasted more authentic than the typical Pizza Hut or Mountain Mikes.
Senior Jenna Mourad, who ordered the beef gyro, also enjoyed her meal.
A gyro is similar to a sandwich or a wrap. Imagine tomatoes, lettuce, onions, Taziki sauce, and your choice of beef or chicken all wrapped up in flatbread. All of the food options under the sandwich section of the menu, which is where the gyros can be found, come with a side order of thick cut, lightly-salted french fries.
With great food, good service, and an incredible venue, I would definitely recommend Waterfront Pizza and Mediterranean Restaurant.
