It’s warming up in Belmont, and for many kids at Carlmont that means bringing out the flip flops. Although many different brands of flip flops are worn, a very common and trendy kind you will see students wearing are “Rainbow” flip flops.
Rainbow flip flops were founded about 30 years ago in California by a man who wanted to create quality sandals that would not fall apart so easily like the ordinary rubber flip flops. With the hand-made high quality leather construction (as opposed to the traditional rubber) that conforms to your feet, the 2,000 lb test military spec strap featuring life support parachute stitching and a lifetime guarantee, they seem to be the ultimate sandal.
But do these sandals actually live up to all these claims?
Lauren Reiley says yes. “They are so comfy and high-quality. I can definitely tell that these flip flops are gonna last me forever!”
However, in this case the quality comes at a high price.
Rainbow flip flops cost around $50, as opposed to the traditional rubber sandals which generally cost around $5.
“Yeah, they were expensive, but they’ve lasted longer than various pairs of my old rubber flip flops have, plus they’re cute. It was a good investment,” Reiley added.
Living in California during the warmer months requires a good pair of sandals, and Rainbow’s provide a new approach to sandals, void of the short-lived chintzy rubber material.
