Curry Up Now is an Indian street-style restaurant chain that brings a modern twist to its venues. It closest locations to Carlmont are in San Mateo and Palo Alto, California. In addition, Curry Up Now also has food trucks that often appear at the parking lot of the Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California.
Curry Up Now serves a variety of very spicy Indian food, but the first thing you notice when entering the restaurant is not the smell of the food, but the modern and hipster vibe.
The colorful and easy to read menu has sexualized, although still appropriate, names for some of their food options. For example, Curry Up Now serves “Naughty Naan,” and “Sexy Fries.”
The restaurant has hopped on the hipster bandwagon and started serving water in glass jars that have a customized logo with their restaurant name on it.
The Palo Alto location has wooden tables, silver metal chairs, a television, and a mirror covering the wall across from the television (so that no matter where you sit, you can see the TV). There is also outdoor seating so customers can enjoy the cool breeze on a hot day.
Ordering, seating, and service were all fast and easy, which made for a satisfactory experience.
Similar to the attractive and comfortable look and feel of the restaurant is the delicious food.
I ordered a paneer tikka masala burrito which consists of your choice of brown or white rice, paneer or chicken, and tikka masala sauce all wrapped in a tortilla. About half way through my burrito I began sniffling and having to take large gulps of my Mexican Coke in order to keep my mouth from getting too hot.
My friend ordered the “Naughty Naan,” which is a piece of naan with a tikka masala spread, some greens and veggies, and the customer’s choice of a meat topping or paneer.
Both of our entrees were extremely spicy and hot and required constant hydration, but if you enjoy spicy food then you’re in luck, because the food tasted great.
I enjoyed the modern feel of the restaurant and the food itself. I would highly recommend Curry Up Now to anyone that is a fan of spicy food or tasteful Indian food.
