The Catholic Church and the LGBTQ+ community have maintained a complex relationship. However, many people in both communities have come to understand the other side, even identifying as members of both. Complete acceptance has not yet been made clear by the Church. “Unfortunately, even in the last two papacies, Pope Francis and now Pope Leo, we're seeing maybe more openness, more receptivity to LGBTQ folks, but here hasn't been a change in the doctrinal posture of the church,” said Jorge Aquino, PhD, a professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Francisco.
