Fresh off of the three-day weekend in honor of Martin Luther King, Carlmont students came to the sudden realization that this was the last week to purchase tickets for the 2012 Winter Formal at the Fox Theater.
Winter Formal tickets went on sale Dec. 14 at the convenient price of $3o with a PAL sticker and $35 without.
ASB Dance Commissioners Kelsey Morgan, Syna Zali, and Tyler Norman were concerned at the beginning of ticket sales, as they were not selling enough tickets to eventually meet their goal.
“Our goal from the beginning was to sell at least 600 tickets. We thought it would’ve been really nice to have 700, but 600 tickets had to happen,” said Morgan.
They may have been in panic mode then, but recently they have witnessed ticket sales go up.
“We have now surpassed our goal of 600 tickets. The majority of our ticket sales definitely came after break,” Morgan added.
When school went back in session after Winter Break, ticket prices for Formal went up. The prices raised to $40 with a PAL sticker and $45 without.
Every day at lunch this week, the ASB room has been overflowing with students.
“Students are very lazy about buying tickets and it is irritating for us [dance commissioners] to have to wait until the last minute. It just means more work for us. Students complain about high prices, but they could have bought them earlier at a really cheap price,” Morgan stated.
Regardless of the situation, Morgan and the other dance commissioners are happy about the outcome.
Winter Formal is at 8:00 p.m. on Jan. 21. The venue for this years’ formal is the beautiful Fox Theater in Redwood City, another reason for the last-minute rush to buy tickets.
