Unlike last year, all of Aragon’s top four players were at the match, but this did not stop Carlmont from winning.
Number two ranked doubles team consisting of senior Mary Farmar and freshman Cassidy Sobey won their match against Aragon with a score of 6-4 and 6-3.
Farmar commented about the competition, “they had really hard hits, but they were inconsistent.”
Farmar saw improvement with her team over the years. “We’ve gotten stronger, more motivated, and closer. We’re more of a team,” added Farmar.
Art Soriano, assistant coach, said that the team this year is different compared to last year.
“This year’s team is younger. We lost a lot of senior varsity players from last year. We were lucky to get strong freshmen to help our lineup. There has also been major improvement with some of our older players. People improved significantly from last year. ” Soriano said. “It helped that the top schools also lost their top players.”
Carlmont plays three matches next week against Hillsdale, Palo Alto, and Burlingame. So far, the Scots have been victorious this season and continue to work hard as the Peninsula Athletic League playoffs approach in three weeks.
