Amidst the mounting stress of the final quarter, ASB aims to reduce this academic tension by preparing for Carlmont’s annual Scotsland festival earlier in order to provide students with something to look forward to before finals.
Melina Dimick, a junior and an Assemblies Commissioner, said, “With the most stressful part of the year in motion, students, including myself, need an outlet away from academics. This is the main motivation for ASB to begin preparing for Scotsland as early as possible, so it can be a festival to remember and provide students with an inclusive event to ease their stress.”
This year, Scotsland will take place Friday, May 24th on the Carlmont football field during a special block schedule day crafted around the festival.
In order to be extremely prepared, the ASB Assemblies Commission has already begun reaching out to entertainment and brainstorming booth ideas to have on the field.
Edrina Hamzeh, a junior and an Assemblies Commissioner, said, “Last year’s Scotsland was definitely not the best it could have been as we did not start planning early enough and we were not prepared for the rain that day. In order to avoid another disorganized festival, the Assemblies Commission has already started reaching out to possible talent acts to be prepared as possible and to give them a solid amount of time to prepare for the festival. We also have been working really hard to lay out what the festival is going to look like and gathering the decorations to go along with this.”
Some talent that will be performing at Scotsland as of now includes Carlmont Dance, Carlmont Dance Team, Carlmont Cheer, Drumline, and even a few student bands which will be a new addition to the festival lineup from last year.
Along with talent acts, ASB and a variety of clubs will also be running activity booths around the entire field in order to give students a wider range of options to participate in.
Freshman Nate Hsich, “This is going to be my very first Scotsland festival, so I am extremely excited. I have heard so much about this from last year and I can’t wait to experience it myself. I am most excited for the Carlmont Dance performances because they always bring so much energy to our school events.”
With this festival, ASB strives to provide students with an inclusive and spirited event to look forward to before finals approach, as well as to end the school year on an overall positive note.
“When I first joined the ASB Assemblies Commission last year, one of the biggest events I helped plan was Scotsland, so this festival holds a special place in my heart,” Dimick said. “We are putting in so much more work into this year’s festival in comparison to last year and I can’t wait for all the students to get to be a part of this.”
