Belmont and San Carlos’ city council elections have finally concluded, and some candidates can breathe a sign of relief while others are looking for a new job.
Incumbent David Braunstien, who is also a Carlmont history teacher, captured 36% of the vote, sealing his reelection with a comfortable lead, while his college Christine Wozniak scraped by with just 14 more votes than challenger Eric Reed.
Wozniak campaigned on her role in the creation of Belmont’s Fire Department and the city’s balanced budget. She was able to hold off against Reed, who campaigned on making the town more family friendly and improving Belmont’s roads.
Candidates Micheal Mcgunniess and Paul Brownlee came in 4th and 5th, respectively.
Over in San Carlos, former mayor Randy Royce lost to Ron Collins, who was endorsed by Assemblymen Jerry Hill and Rich Gordon, and Mark Olbert, the two challengers winning the two available council seats.
Royce, who campaigned on budget reform, was unable to persuade voters against San Carlos School Board member Mark Olbert and the owner of Ron Collins Financial Services’ Ron Collins.
On Twitter, Collins thanked everyone for their support, “I look forward to serving as your next councilman and hope you will continue to give me your input and stand with me as we work to keep our beloved San Carlos on course toward the future!”
