Carlmont softball had a disappointing weekend in Salinas, losing their first two games of the season.
The Lady Scots knew they were the underdogs as they faced off against defending CCS Champions, San Benito. Freshman sensation Danielle Giuliacci started for Carlmont, and had a terrific performance giving up 0 earned runs in five innings.
Unfortunately for the Lady Scots, offense was the problem as they recorded just four hits and were not able to produce a run. Although it was a respectable loss for Carlmont, it was a missed opportunity at a quality preseason victory.
In their second game of the day, the Lady Scots battled Leigh. However, this game was tied at two heading into the seventh, resulting in an international tiebreaker.
Both teams began the inning with a runner on second base, but only Leigh capitalized, awarding them the 3-2 victory. For the Lady Scots, who had yet to lose a game all season, this was quite  an eye opener.
“These were two of the top teams we are going to face this year, but we just need to step up our game and we can get them next time,” stated freshman pitcher Rebecca Faulkner.
Carlmont will be out for blood on Saturday, in their first attempt at redemption versus in-city rivals Notre Dame. Come out and support your Lady Scots on Carlmont’s home field at 2:30.
