Cartoon: Iran’s women rights protests

22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian Mahsa Amini died in police custody after being arrested by the Iranian morality police for wearing an “improper hijab,” and many suspect that she was beaten to death. Amini’s death sparked much outrage over the political autonomy over women’s bodies and authoritarian governance. In addition, mass protests have spread across major cities in Iran, with many women from around the world cutting their hair or shaving their heads to show solidarity and support for Iranian women’s rights and protests.
