Due to the record high temperatures from the heat wave, Governor Newsom and the California Independent System Operator called for emergency measures and for residents to conserve energy so as not to overpower the energy grid. They issued a Flex Alert, calling for people to turn off lights, unplug unnecessary appliances, and more. Many homes experienced power outages and blackouts due to the inability of the California energy grid to support the power needs of both the extreme air conditioner use in response to the heat and the heat damage itself.
