South San Francisco Parks and Recreation hosted its second annual Holi festival on March 8, celebrating the festival of colors with people of all ages in the community. Holi is a Hindu festival that marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes love, renewal, and the victory of good over evil. The event featured informational presentations, historical reenactments, and performances about the festival, with students and parents participating together.
Hindi language and culture students Raunuq Ahuja and Viraj Ahuja sing “The Magic of Holi” during the annual Holi festival. Students like the Ahujas spent weeks practicing songs and performances in class before presenting them on stage for the community. “The class effort becomes the stage performance,” said Monita Sharma, a part-time Hindi language and culture instructor with the South San Francisco Parks & Recreation Department.
