On Feb. 3, Carlmont varsity soccer faced Burlingame against an intense and challenging game, but against all odds, Carlmont won 2-0.
“It’s always an intense game when Carlmont plays Burlingame. This time it was especially hard because we were upset from letting our first game against them slip away,” said Carlmont soccer player Nick Monteiro.
Carlmont started off strong with a goal made by Justin Harpster in the first half and another goal by Jackson Criswell in the second half. Harpster was able to maintain a steady hold on the ball, while Luke Petersen and Matt Wood made smart passes and important saves.
Goalie, Zack Wooster, was able to save seven balls and many others that entered his zone.
“Carlmont played a smart and physical game, and we kept our head in the game the whole time – only focusing on the win,” said Monteiro.
Among the amazing passes, kicks, and headers, Monteiro, Danny Mata, and Graham Goodwin recieved yellow cards while Burlingame recieved four yellow cards and a red card.
The red card was given to Burlingame, during the second half for aggresively pushing Carlmont player, Christian Reyes off the field. The agruement rose among the players on both sides, leading to the expulsion of a burlingame player.
“It was a hard game, but it was especially hard to lose a man on the team,” exclaimed Burlingame soccer player Alex Shneider.
Even at the end of the game, the tension remained the same when a Burlingame player approached Wooster and began to get agressive. Coaches, captains, players from both teams, and vice- principals intervened and immediately had the teams off the field.
Carlmont varsity soccer will play against San Mateo, Feb. 8 in order to keep their head in the game for CCS.
