As the Carlmont girls varsity soccer team’s game began, the Terra Nova Tigers took an early lead, scoring a mere 35 seconds after the start of the game.
The cause of this goal was scored when the Scots’ goalkeeper moved away from the goal to assist her teammates in stopping the Tiger’s offense.
Even though the Scots fell behind in the very beginning, they got used to the slipperiness of the ball and were able to keep the Tigers pinned back on their side of the field for the rest of the half. Emily Cox said, “After the first five minutes we got used to the feel of the ball, and then shots went in.”
After 11 minutes in the second half, Melissa Wood was able to tie up the game with a nice shot off of a free kick. Another 11 minutes passed when Kayla Fong scored the second goal for the Scots.
Lindsay Hendershott said “we played a lot better in the second half and it felt more constant.”
Melissa Wood said that the team could improve by “keeping a forward on their last defender,” which would help by keeping the ball closer to their goal, instead of it just being kicked right back.
