The Carlmont varsity baseball team played a non-league game against the Woodside Wildcats on Werdnesday., Apr. 27.
Carlmont’s pitcher Bradley Levine was a force in preventing the Wildcats from scoring. He pitched six scoreless innings and recorded six strikeouts until Ryan Gavasse came in to shut down the game in the seventh inning.
In addition to solid pitching, the Scots’ defense was also key to their victory. Shortstop Kyle Barret fielded several ground balls to throw out the runners at first base.
On the offensive side, the Scots put five runs one the board, scoring two in the second inning and three in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the second inning, a walk by Gavasse and two consecutive doubles by Gabe Belnick and Daniel Wendland enabled Gavasse and Belnick to score.
A perfectly executed squeeze play in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Scots their fifth run. Outfielder Justin Fink hit a double down the right field line that allowed Daniel Madigan and Colton Hicks to score.
Fink advanced to third on a wild pitch and then was sent home when Nic Bongi successfully put down the sacrifice bunt toward first base.
The next varsity home game is on Friday, May 6 at 3:15 pm.
