The Carlmont JV football team shut down the Terra Nova Tigers, allowing one touchdown the whole game. The score was 44-6 for the Scots, securing a strong finish for their final home game.
The first quarter started off with low energy from the Scots. This resulted in them giving up a Terra Nova big run in the first few plays of the game. The momentum quickly shifted, however, as the Scots pulled down an interception.
“Our energy going into the game seemed low, but after one play we woke up,” said receiver Austin Sotto.
With the ball in the Scot’s possession, quarterback Brody Zirelli and Sotto rallied to get the ball in range for Maximiliano LaVrar to score on a run play. After a pass from Zirelli to sophomore Patrick Harvey-Guedes, the first quarter ended 16-0.
“Everything went well. Our team worked together and collaborated, and it was a team effort,” LaVrar said.
The second quarter started off strong for the Scots with LaVrar scoring yet another touchdown on a short run. Terra Nova was not going down easily, however. They were fighting for every inch on the field with penalty flags being thrown for both teams along with warnings for coaches. The Tigers got their touchdown on a ball thrown far downfield which they sprinted in. They failed to get a two-point conversion.
The Scots ended the first half running the ball in for a touchdown, leaving the field 30-6.
“Throughout the game, it kept getting better and better because we kept putting the score higher and higher. In the end, we were just all happy,” LaVrar said.
The Scots didn’t let off the gas going into the third quarter, scoring two more touchdowns. Although Terra Nova fought, it wasn’t enough to take down the Scots.
Although their season is almost over with only two games left, the Scots don’t plan to let up any time soon.
“We’re 7-1 and we are still going,” Zirelli said.
Team chemistry has been a major part of helping this team be so successful. Their friendships off the field have contributed to the victories they have experienced on the field.
“We have already played together. Everyone was in sync with everyone else,” Zirelli said.
This team does not plan to take a break and will head into the off-season looking to get stronger and faster.
“Next season will be about putting that work in, getting everything down with the juniors, and soon-to-be seniors, and being able to work together to get a 10-0 record,” LaVrar said.
