Last night, a car drove into CAPO, a local Mediterranean restaurant in Belmont. According to an email statement provided to Scot Scoop, the Belmont Police Department reported that someone in the restaurant was slightly injured and that there were moderate damages to the front of the restaurant.
“Suddenly, the vehicle just gunned (from what seemed to be a standstill) into the restaurant,” said Amber Smith, a bystander.
According to Smith, after the accident, restaurant workers rushed to get the driver and their children safely out of the car. Police later arrived to assess the situation.
CAPO employee Carl Bussiek says the damage is extensive and will likely take months to repair.
“You could visibly see that the whole front door was gone, like the left part of the front door was just kinda destroyed, and then the counter was also bashed in,” Bussiek said.
CAPO is expected to be closed for a few months to allow for repairs, which will likely be covered by insurance, according to Bussiek.
“With the closure, I guess I’m unemployed for a bit, which is unfortunate,” Bussiek said.
The Belmont police stated that they don’t have much information on the accident. The owner of CAPO also declined to comment.
