Chinelos dancers dance in a circle on stage to upbeat mariachi music, performing the Dance of the Chinelos. The Dance was developed after the Spanish conquest of Mexico, where the indigenous people of the region would wear exaggerated masks of Spanish faces and fancy clothing to mock them. This is why Chinelos dancers are always disguised with their masks when performing.
Redwood City recently hosted its annual celebration of the Dia de los Muertos holiday, also known as the Day of the Dead. The festival had many performances such as music and dances, shopping stalls, showcasing of alters, and activities for the kids inside the museum. With many activities at the festival, attendees had the opportunity to feel the Dia de los Muertos spirit of honoring the legacy of passed loved ones.
