The Carlmont junior varsity girls lacrosse team prevailed against the Castilleja Gators in their 13-2 win on March 14.
This win comes in their second game of the season and puts them at 2-0 so far with a previous win against the Sequoia Ravens 5-2.
The Scots started the game off strong with early goals from Vanessa McMahon and Sophia Lee propelling them to an early 5-1 lead to end the first period.
The second period was slower for the Scots as the Gators came out with an early goal and strong defense. However, there to propel them into halftime was captain Dani Lewis with a solo effort running with the ball for most of the attack.
The final two periods combined both the Scots defense and offense, where they were able to put up another seven goals as well as keep a shutout the rest of the game with multiple saves from freshman goalkeeper Chloe Luscri.
This win sets the tone for the rest of the season for the Scots, as they have hopes to win the league.
“The goal is to win the league but also to work as a team and get better together,” said freshman Mia Masukawa.
Lewis noted some of these things they want to improve on as a group.
“Overall, we played well, but there are always things to improve on like making sure we are focused the entire game,” Lewis said.
These thoughts were echoed by assistant coach Hugh Plitt, who is in his first year with the team.
“Obviously, in a big win like today, it may be hard to stay focused, but it is important that we try to do so and not get overconfident if we want to continue to win games,” Plitt said.
But even with these improvements, Plitt says the future of the lacrosse program is in good hands with the upcoming freshmen and sophomores.
“This is a team that can go really far and I can’t wait to see what these girls will do in the future on varsity and beyond,” Plitt said.
