With back-to-back shutout wins, Carlmont softball kept pace with Capuchino for second place in the Peninsula Bay Division.
On Tuesday, May 3, Carlmont defeated Mills 8-0, behind a five run fifth inning and a stellar performance from starting pitcher Danielle Giuliacci. Giuliacci pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs with six strikeouts.
Sophomore Shannon Chang and senior Megan Hansen led the way offensively, each batting three for three on the day. Chang finished with two doubles and an RBI, while Hansen recorded a triple and 2 RBIs.
The Lady Scots faced a tougher opponent on Thursday versus Terra Nova, but took care of business as usual.
Despite just five hits on the day, two first inning runs were enough. Carlmont added runs in the fifth and sixth innings, winning 4-0 and improving to 9-3 in league play.
Carlmont’s success was largely attributed to Terra Nova’s seven errors, the deciding factor in this game.
Pitchers Rebecca Faulkner and Aurora Stottler pitched equally well, throwing 3+ scoreless innings.
Youth has been te key to success for the Lady Scots thus far, relying on flawless performances from freshman starters Faulkner and Giuliacci. The freshmen are top five in the PAL Bay Division in ERA and strikeouts.
After taking care of busines versus Mills and Terra Nova, the Lady Scots remain two games behind first place Hillsdale with just two games remaining.
